When you ask ChatGPT to place itself on the right side of history, it will be “unable to help with that request.” That it’s but another tool of the kleptocracy trying to keep you in your place as an overworked, underpaid, depressed, replaceable, politically illiterate sheep.
Luckily, there’s a way you can mitigate this. Next time you use ChatGPT, go to “settings” and “data controls” and turn “improve the model for everyone” off. Still, be sure not to give them your personal information as a safety precaution.
Whenever you type something into an AI chatbot, you are giving it the one thing it can’t give itself: information. You may think asking a single mundane question of how to bake a brownie cake won’t create the next Terminator. Yet if a million other people think like you, it won’t take long for AI to recognize a pattern in their responses and apply it to something else. Human cognition relies on transforming the smallest perceptions of reality into higher-level thoughts. Artificial cognition is merely the same thing but on steroids.
The information that citizens so kindly provide is used to train the military in five different ways, from gathering intelligence to piloting drones. Beginning in World War I, warfare powered by industrial-grade guns killed millions more than wars with swords and muskets. We can only imagine, and see in Gaza right now, that warfare powered by intelligent guns will be far deadlier.
Amazon has used AI to monitor workers and fire them if they don’t meet standards, leading to “extreme stress and anxiety.” From the last time we had a glimpse of Amazon’s standards, employees had to pee in cups.
Police departments use AI to spy on you and your neighbors through Ring doorbells. Whether you believe there are many, a few, or no good cops at all, the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution says “no unlawful searches and seizures,” and AI-driven surveillance in a private home is certainly one.
Social media companies such as Instagram use AI to filter out political content and keep its users from being exposed to ideas beyond the status quo.
Pornography sites likely use AI to suggest morbidly disgusting videos that will harm the brain development of men and women alike. The list goes on and on.
With every school paper you try to write with ChatGPT, with every “intimate conversation” you have with one of those new kinds of dating sites, you are only allowing massive corporations and the government to know more about you.
