No to US Imperialism in Haiti!
As a lot of us have heard, the US has been calling to invade Haiti to maintain its powerful grip on the country. For many years, American capitalists have used the country as a source of profit, impoverishing the resource-rich (even oil-rich, it seems!) country. The Haitian people are rebelling against the US’s exploitation of their nation, its backing of the corrupt bureaucratic-comprador capitalist class in power, and their misery and poverty.
During the turmoil, certain gangs and paramilitaries became powerful in the country, and these are the forces that the US is trying to use to justify their invasion. However, these groups were often created and funded by the Haitian state and the US, and only recently did they break away from it for further benefit. Therefore, US imperialism is not the solution to the rise of organized crime in the country.
As Marxists, we must oppose any imperialist attempts at quelling popular discontent. We demand the US get its hands off of Haiti, and we demand it recognizes the self-determination of the Haitian people. Simultaneously, we hope for communists in Haiti to organize the masses and wage a revolution to liberate the country and establish proletarian rule.
No to Yankee imperialism in Haiti! Support Haitian self-determination!
(A lot of the information for this came from a Trotskyist article: Hands Off Haiti, and Down with the IMF: Political Declaration of the Trotskyist Fraction–Fourth International - Left Voice. While we do not endorse this organization, we appreciate it for informing us about US imperialism in Haiti, and it does a good job at explaining what socialists should do regarding it.)
